G'day!

If view of the impending go card only environment.  Could you please detail rail stations that do not have enough go card readers.  As passengers surge at peak it is important that they don't have to stand for minutes to touch off.  There are also safety considerations under 'QR's zero harm policy'. We will compile a list and present it to the authorities.

First example, Oxley railway station.

Bizarre ...  the main stairs down from platforms 1 and 2, the platform where the peak PM trains discharge the happy punters has only ONE reader on the stairs.  There is always a race for the eager ones to touch and I think it is only a matter of time before someone seriously injuries themselves.  On platform 3, eastern end there are two readers!!

So Oxley, platform 1 and 2 main stairs down needs an extra reader.

I was lined up at one of the Boondall readers the other day (before the announced changes) and was actually considering starting a thread like this!  The announced changes just highlight the issue.

I get off the second-last carriage and head past the last carriage to the reader at the southern end of platform 2 at Boondall.  There are sometimes 4 or 5 people ahead of me in the queue.  The problem is, for each go card user, there are probably 5 others who just walk through.  Once these people convert to Go Card, we'll be standing in queue for a while - and there will be more behind from further down the train who also use that exit.

There are 2 readers at the exit that heads towards the Entertainment Centre.  This will hardly be sufficient when thousands of commuters will be filing through after an event without the option of paper tickets.  They need a temporary bank of readers that they can set up during events and remove afterwards.  (Ideally they need a set of fare gates, but that would mean some redevelopment of the station.)

There is also only one reader at the northern end of platform 2.  I'm unaware of the loading on that reader.

One reader per exit might work at some stations - but there are many popular stations that will definitely need a second reader.  This needs to be done NOW - as many will switch to Go Cards once the fares change in January.

There should be one reader on either side of an exit, in many places there is only one reader.

But for my suggestions:

- Platform 1 Morayfield, increase from two to four. The current readers are either side of a middle pole in the exit, the extra two readers need to be located on the edges of the exit.
- Platform 2 Morayfield, the single exit has two readers on either side but can be improved by adding a second exit with two readers, especially as all afternoon/evening peak services use platform 2.

-Platform 1 Caboolture, at the platform 1 exit by the stairs there is only one reader, I've narrowly avoided many run-ins while trying to enter just as an afternoon/evening peak service disembarked.  There should be two readers placed at the bottom of the stairs and another two readers placed back-to-back approx. 3m from the station layout sign on platform 1.

-Landsborough, place two readers at each entry point.

Petrie Station

I have NO idea what TransLink and Cubic were thinking of - or if they weren't - when they set up the readers at Petrie. During the Pilot, there were only two readers for the entire station and they were right beside each other at the main entry and exit. Stampedes were common.

Now, the situation there is just crazy. The exit corridor opposite the ticket window on platform 1 has had one of the readers removed.

I am NOT making that up.

And there's only one there now. This really needs to be fixed. One on the opposite of the corridor would make an awful lot of sense.

The new big, wide exit on platform one has one paltry reader (I suspect it's the one moved from the other exit) tucked away to the side. Another one on the opposite side would be quite sensible.

There's one reader at the bottom of the stairs on platform 2 and 3. This actually makes sense!  :-w
At Lawnton station, there are extra readers on the overbridge between platforms and I think Petrie would benefit enormously from this sort of arrangement. They have one at either side of the top of the stairs from platforms 2 and 3, and Petrie could do something similar.

Touching off at Petrie station is, at the moment, dangerous and hazardous because of the complete lack of readers and the stampede that happens when the outbound peak trains pull in.

Landsborough Station

Exactly what Fridge has said - two readers at each exit point. Come to think of it, Petrie needs this too.

Roma Street Station

With some commuter services seeming to use Platform 10 and Roma Street during peak times, there really ought to be readers here for commuters to correctly touch on or off when required. For heavens sake, Platform 3 which is the busway inbound platform have them!

TransStink - because your guess is as good as ours! ;)

another reader is needed on the northern stairs of manly

Landsborough Station

Two readers (min.) required at each exit point, maybe even more exit points required also.
I see the queues for the readers every night - not anything like the false propaganda shown on the Go card TV ads
where commuters breeze through the gates.

milton train station
bundamba train station
booval station
auchenflower station

the above are all stations I have seen people lining up to swipe off (by lining up I mean at least 20 people or more)

Derwan

I'll add Banyo to the list.  It's a very popular station and there is only one reader per exit.

Beerwah Station is in the same situation as Landsborough, needs two go card readers at each exit (due to the line up in the morning and afternoon peaks trying to tag on or off).

Unless stated otherwise, Opinions stated in my posts are those of my own view only.

Alderley & Enoggera - there are always queues at the reader in the evenings (not that it currently affects me, as I use paper tickets).
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2007 - 7tph
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2010 - 4tph
* departures from Central between 16:30 and 17:30.

Hi All

Southbank station

I use the station daily. On Platfrom 1 (I think that is the number, the platform nearest Southbank parklands) there are two increasingly bedraggled readers next to the ticket office. At peak hours, especially during school and TAFE semesters the number of readers is completely inadequate to cope with the number of people leaving trains at the station, with queues extending back onto the plaltform often blocking the platform.

There would be a good case to duplicate these readers, or have readers further up and down the platform

brismike

Definitely Darra Station needs more readers on the car park end of Platform 1 & 2. (Platform 1 was closed but is being re-opened as part of the redevelopment of Darra Station.

In the evening peak when the 5.23pm ex Roma St express arrives at Darra at 5.43pm it is just chaos on that western end of the platform. I have seen more civilised scrums in Rugby League test matches. One reader for about 150 people does not make for a good mix.

What you find is that the people that get off that train at Darra all tend to get in the first carriage so that they are nearest the reader when they get off. People start to get up and queue at the doors of the carriage to get off when the train is still passing thru Oxley, all just so they don't have to queue at the reader. So effectivly the queue for the reader starts in the train while it is still moving.

When that train leaves Darra for its next stop at Redbank the first carriage is almost empty lol.

I would think that at least 4 go-card readers were needed here to handle the expected pressure when everyone is forced to use go-cards.

I know of 2 stations right off the top of my head
Burpengary No 1 platform exit near the station office - only one there and needs two as people tend to line up waiting in the afternoon to wait even now let alone when they will be forced to use it.

A similar situation at Deagon on the down platform - two needed on the exits as line ups occur here.

I would suggest all exits used by detraining passengers in the afternoon should have 2 for each exit as the most important thing for people going home after work is to get there quickly.

Goodna railway station is another that has been 'mentioned in  dispatches' ...
