I'm surprised that there are still some 111 services which are not serviced by articulated buses (especially during peak times). Surely the route is popular enough to make it a full time articulated service?

I guess it really depends on how many articulated buses and qualified drivers there are available. It might be a choice between putting a rigid on the run or no bus at all.

In my experience the 111 to Eight Mile Plains is one of the poor cousins during the morning peak. Since July I try to catch the 111 to Eight Mile Plains from Roma Street Station around 8am 2-3 days a week.  All except 2 occasions the bus arrived 5-6mins late or not arrive at all.  Twice 2 in a row did not turn up at all.  On 3 occasions I had decided to catch the 66 and change to another bus somewhere along the SE Busway because I got sick of waiting.

What I'm surprised about is the number of only slightly different routes on the Cultural Centre-Garden City corridor.  You have the 111, 150, 160, 555 full time services, as well as services which run on part of the corridor and peak services.  Ok, so we need the 150 & 555 because they extend to other places.  But the one I'm not sure if we need is the 160.  Could we can that and canabalise the frequency for extra 111 services?

I also know of the 130 as far as Griffith Uni, I think and the 162 peak hour service.  Am I missing many?  That I have to ask this question is one problem I have with translink: Where's their maps?  This is an example of what Sydney buses do: http://www.131500.com.au/pdf/northern_region_guide_map_2009.pdf

I think 160 (for many, but not all buses) is to give people at Queen St Station access to Garden City, and also act as a route for buses that are going back to Garden City Depot.

But they have the 130/140/150, which make three fewer stops as well. Better to ditch the 160, and run the 111 every 7-8 minutes on weekdays.

While the 160 is not much fun outbound on the Inbound is where it shines. As so many people get on at Garden City it arrives there long before the 111. This allows it to take the bulk of the Garden city patronage without holding up the 111.

How's that better than running a more frequent 111 on the inbound?  That would give a single stop with a high frequency service on the outbound.

Perhaps increase 162 frequency in the peak.  At other times, I don't see much need for the 160 except for the stops the 130/140/150 are missing, which takes me back to my original argument.

I also think the 555 is very odd.  Runs along the same basic corridor, but stops all stops and doesn't get in to QSBS.  I think an express service using the Capt Cook Bridge would be better.

160s should be kept for peak services only and then those buses used to service Griffith uni for the return trips. eg

Mornings
Garden City - City
City - Griffith Nathan, then return to Garden City as 'not in service' or all stops following the 120 or 125 or 260/262 route to go to the depot or start again.

Afternoons

I normally catch a SE Busway Service and change at the Griffith Bus Station to go to and from Nathan Campus to avoid the cramped buses as these SE Busway buses travel against the peak and have low patronage while the Griffith buses are packed.

I think 111 & 555 should be merged when the Springwood bus station busway extension is complete.
The whole idea behind 111 was to have a bus that travelled to all stations along the busway.

The problem will be deciding who gets to run the buses (Logan/BCC), who pays for it (does BCC subsidise a bus outside of its council area?) and the use of the bus station (can Logan buses use the KGS or QSBS busway station?).

IMHO 555 is a trunk route. Stopping on Elizabeth Street is not optimal. It should stop inside QSBS.
I'm happy with 160, but there could be ideas for its improvement such as turning it into an express and making it run via the Captain Cook Bridge all day. Just an idea

I agree thee 111 and 555 should be merged and thus frequency increased.  It should also run from Beenleigh as well not just springwood.

Well if that is done, the 160 should also go along for that ride.  And that may mean a stop in QSBS.

Running to Beenleigh seems a little excessive as there's already the train station there.

But there is another option which I think could be more appropriate:  Run the 555 express north of Griffth Uni and re-route over the Capt Cook Bridge, then stop on Elizabeth & Albert Sts like present.  Do this off peak as well as peak.  This route would still justify better than BUZ frequency, but there would need to something to service Holland Park West-Cultural Centre.  Perhaps that would be when retaining the 160 or 111 could be justified.

Assuming all peple in Beenleigh work in the city.  The idea of connecting to Beenleigh was to allow people who work or wish to go to/from Garden City, Spingwood and Loganholme have access from the south.
