Brisbane:  Citytrain Commuter Compensation Scheme Needed

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)  a web based community support group for rail has said that a question on Notice in the Queensland Parliament has revealed the number of Citytrain cancellations being endured by the long suffering public, and it is time commuters were compensated for the failure to provide timetabled services.

Robert Dow said:

?There has been a lot of negative feedback in the press, on talkback radio and to RAIL Back On Track concerning  the ongoing and escalating problem of Citytrain service cancellations, particularly in peak times.

?Mr Nicholls, Member for Clayfield, asked a question on notice in parliament concerning the number of Citytrain cancellations across the network. The Minister has tabled the answer.  (Reference 1.)

?From July 2006 till June 2007 there were 903 cancellations!

?For the month of July 2007 there were 470 cancellations!

?These figures confirm why there is the public angst and discontent.

?RAIL Back On Track believes it is time for an apology to the TRANSLink Citytrain travelling public, and an outline provided of what is going to be done in the immediate, short and long term to address these issues.

?It is time that a TRANSLink Citytrain Commuter Compensation scheme was implemented.  This should be expanded to all TRANSLink services.

?Passengers who are left stranded should be invited to apply for a free daily ticket for each time they are bypassed or their service is cancelled and does not arrive.

?A similar scheme operates in Melbourne as an incentive for the operator, Connex, to maintain service standards.  It might be a breath of fresh air for South East Queensland commuters if a similar scheme was introduced here in Queensland.

?The details of all Citytrain services cancelled each day, and the number of buses, catamarans and ferries that have bypassed because of full loadings should be publicly displayed on the TRANSLink web site updated daily.  The public is entitled to know this information.?

Re-release.  Nothing has changed since this was first put out.

Is the Minister and TransLink going to continue to hid behind the 'flu' excuse?

The Citytrain commuter public has had enough of this ongoing pathetic incompetence, cancellation chaos and congestion, and deserves better, much better.
