There have been suggestions to Translink to put in map based geofunctionality into their PT maps, so people who have never used the system can see where their stop is and where they are going.

As usual, it hasn't happened, and now a company which does not even sell PT (Google) has beat them to it.

Transperth has signed up to the service.

Just enter your destination (Perth Central --> Joondalup Stn), press start, select the station if markers come up, and it will even give you the map and the times that you need.

On Sunday morning, there is a train at
8:04 am
8:19 am
8:34 am
8:49 am

The trip takes 35 minutes by train, by car would take 23 minutes, and walking would take 5hours and 19 minutes.
(No cycling option as of yet!)

Contrast this with, say Central to Corinda, for the same day and time:

8.06 am
8.36 am

Which takes about 23 minutes.

Perth is much smaller than Brisbane. Even it has better PT than we do.

sigh perth managed to plan things properly the only stupid thing they did was building 2 car platforms in the beggining
"Where else but Queensland?"

Yeah, I am surprised at how well and efficiently Perth manages it's PT.
I wish TransPerth had a commercial arm that would do work outside WA.

We could then fire let go of TransLink, and pay TransPerth to do the work.
Contraversial, but might just do the job.

For those who hadn't noticed, Google Maps now has live traffic information for Brisbane.

Wouldn't it be great if people had a one-stop-shop for all their commuting needs?  Should I drive?  Traffic is a bit heavy.  What are my Public Transport options?  (2 clicks).  Ah - that's a better option.

Google will add Translink PT details to their maps for free. Translink just have to export their data in the relevant format..

I'd much rather use google mags than the translink journey planner.

:pr Terrible. It is even free for TL to do!

Thanks for pointing that out haakon.

TransLink's corporate logo should be a stylised glacier ...  eg.

This is a student project I came across.  Not commercial but it shows what can be done.

Top effort!

There's an iPhone app called Metro Brisbane available from iTunes for $3.99 - it looks okay, but I haven't bought it because the equivalent Metro Melbourne was offered for free for a couple of weeks, and I'm still hoping...

But only has information on train timetables, no buses or ferries.   :'(
