RAIL Back On Track
Media Release  19 August 2006

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)   a new web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has called for preservation of the railway line to allow rail access to the Old Townsville Station.

A RAIL Back On Track spokesman said    ?It is important to recognise the historical context of the railway station, and the need to maintain the capability of running heritage trains between the heritage listed station and the heritage listed workshops.

A railway station of such significance, without the capability to run the occasional train is historical vandalism.

RAIL Back On Track calls on the Minister for Transport and Main Roads (Hon Mr Paul Lucas) to ensure that a ceremonial walkway with an embedded railway line is built. In so doing, protecting and enhancing the rail history of North Queensland for all future generations.?

THere's track throughout the Ipswich Workshops that is nicely covered with a form of Plastic / rubber trim.

We walk infront of, beside 1281 without the need for pink cards or hi vis vests and the like.
