ONE of Brisbane's busiest ferry stops will be closed for at least two days after council inspectors discovered a problem with the gangway.

The ferry stop, at the Queensland University of Technology, was shut down after inspectors discovered a problem with the terminal's gangway during a routine inspection.

A statement by Brisbane City Council said the terminal would be blocked off to commuters for at least two days, pending repairs.

"The ferry terminal was closed this afternoon for a further inspection. It is anticipated that the terminal will remain closed for at least two days."

The closure of the ferry terminal was recommended to maintain the safety of all passengers and operational staff.

Commuters have been told to use the nearby North Quay ferry terminal, or use the Goodwill Bridge.

I can't say I will miss it. It is faster to walk between the QUT and North Quay ferry wharves than it it to catch the CityCat!

Public Transport Alert: QUT ferry terminal to reopen
August 21, 2009

Brisbane City Council advises that the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Gardens Point ferry terminal will reopen for CityCat services from 1:00pm today.

The terminal has been closed since Monday afternoon due to maintenance requirements.

Until the terminal reopens, it is recommended that customers use the North Quay ferry terminal, which is approximately 500 metres upstream towards the Victoria Bridge, or alternatively the Goodwill Bridge, to access QUT.

Brisbane City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused to CityCat passengers during the period of the terminal closure.

Personally I reckon the Citycat should bypass QUT and let the Cityferry service it instead.  It's easy enough to get off at North Quay and either walk or catch the Free Loop to QUT, or getting off at Southbank and walking along the river to the Goodwill Bridge.
