Queensland: Well done Queensland Rail

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport has congratulated Queensland Rail (QR) for a another successful year (Reference 1).

Robert Dow said:

?Queensland?s railway network is one of the great rail systems of the world, particularly when one considers the huge commodity and freight haulage on the 3? 6? gauge throughout the state, quite remarkable by world standards.

?Now a national player, QR is a not only great asset for the state but increasingly also for the nation and will no doubt play an important role in sustainable transport solutions for the whole of Australia.

?Passenger and freight traffic has increased significantly.  Citytrain patronage has increased by 9% in year 2006/2007 for example.

?The sudden and sustained demands being made on Citytrain has resulted in some service shortfalls but it is pleasing to note that efforts are being made to address these issues.

?The 44 new 3 car sets and crew being progressively introduced will help to increase capacity but in the medium to longer term more trains and crew will be needed."

?RAIL Back On Track thanks all QR staff for their sustained commitment to rail transport.?
