Minister for Transport
The Honourable Rachel Nolan

Public urged to comment on Mt Lindesay-Beaudesert transport study

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan has urged the public to comment on the draft report of the investigation into the long-term transportation needs of the Mt Lindesay-Beaudesert region.

Ms Nolan said the Department of Transport and Main Roads study would help state and local governments prepare for the predicted growth in the region.

The South East Queensland Regional Plan 2005-2026 predicts there will be significant development in Bromelton, Flagstone, Park Ridge and Yarrabilba.

Ms Nolan said the study would help authorities to plan for:

    * well-connected roads, pathways and bus and rail routes
    * direct routes from residential neighbourhoods to employment centres and local services
    * transport networks which are easy to use for all commuters, including those with limited mobility
    * flexible networks which cater for growth and provide good local connections.

The report proposes a number of improvements to the region's road, public transport, pedestrian, cycle and freight networks over the next 50 years.

"No specific corridor alignments have been identified at this stage," Ms Nolan said.

"This will be undertaken in follow-up corridor studies that are recommended for four major new corridors and a range of other regional transport routes.

"The new corridors include a study for a north-south road link east of the Mt Lindesay Highway, an east-west road link known as the southern infrastructure road corridor, an east-west road link along the Springfield-Greenbank arterial, and a north-south passenger rail link between Salisbury and Beaudesert.

"In the short to medium term, the area's growing public transport needs will be met by an enhanced bus network, with greater frequencies and additional routes on existing roads."

Ms Nolan said the draft report will be available for viewing from Monday 18 May at libraries in Greenbank, Jimboomba, Logan Village and Logan West, at council offices in Logan and Beaudesert, and at the Queensland Government Agent Program (QGAP) office in Beaudesert.

People are encouraged to have their say by making a submission to the study team by 12 June 2009. The feedback will be considered in the final report, due for completion in the second half of 2009.

The study area extends from the Logan Motorway in the north to the Queensland-New South Wales border, east to the Pacific Motorway and west to the Ipswich Motorway/Cunningham Highway.

The draft report and information on the study findings can also be found on the project website http://www.mtlindesaybeaudeserttransport.com.au
