Probably a dumb question but why can't they send it north on the railway instead of on the road?  ???

ozbob

There are built down south and transported by road to Acacia Ridge (on 3'6" bogies).  I think from there they go north by rail on the 3'6".
I am waiting on confirmation of this.

Regards
Bob

They are rebuilt in the south, being a tri-bo wheel arangement they are transported north usually to Acacia Ridge by road where they are placed on bogies and then hauled dead north for commissioning.
