SEQ:  Oxley CWA Hall saved for the future!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has thanked QR, Trackstar Alliance, BCC and the State Government for preserving the CWA Hall at Oxley.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The Oxley CWA Hall has been next to the railway line at Oxley since about 1954.  With the upgrade project from a double line to a quadruplication between Darra and Corinda, the hall had to be removed."

"Councillor for Richlands Milton Dick, and the Member for Mount Ommaney Julie Attwood were instrumental in securing a new location for the hall in a local park at Oxley.  There it will continue to be used by the CWA and other community groups for meetings and get-togethers."

"Today I observed the transfer of the hall to a removal trailer at Oxley railway station.  Tonight (Sunday) the hall will be moved under police escort to the park. (1)"

"The upgrade project and work on the stations at Oxley and Darra is part of a larger upgrade of the western main line.  It is a very significant project in terms of scale and impact.  It is pleasing to see that in the midst of this huge project, small, but significant pieces of local history can be preserved with a bit of vision."

"In a similar vein, the historic Station Master's House at Oxley was preserved and now is at Corinda State High School (2)."

"Thanks to all concerned for the preservation of these little pieces of community history."
