Q150 ICONS' VOTING BEGINS TODAY AT WWW.Q150.QLD.GOV.AU

Vote now if you want to have your say on what's a Queensland icon and what's not for Queensland's 150th anniversary celebrations, Premier Anna Bligh said today.

"Voting begins today and closes on 30 April," she said.

"Queenslanders can make their choice from a shortlist of 300 Q150 icons across 10 categories under headings of people, places and stories.

"The categories are Defining Moments, Events and Festivals, Influential Artists, Innovations and Inventions, Locations, Natural Attractions, Sports Legends, State-shapers, Structures and Engineering Feats, and what's Typically Queensland.

"What icons will Queenslanders choose? is the question begging to be answered.

"Could Mabo High Court of Australia decision, the Fitzgerald Inquiry, the Qantas liftoff, Out of the Box Festival or State of Origin make the final cut?

"What about Savage Garden, Easton Pearson, Scramjet 1993, Australia Zoo, Surfers Paradise, Fraser Island and Keiren Perkins?

"Then there's Charles Kingsford-Smith, Victoria Barracks, Skyrail Rainforest Cable, backyard BBQs or XXXX beer.

"So many to choose from and so little time.

"The job is yours Queenslanders. Enjoy it. Have fun with it. Debate it.

"Tell us who and what you really think ought to be a Queensland icon."

The results of public voting on Q150 icons will be available in Queensland Week.

2009 marks Queensland's 150th year of separation from New South Wales.

Q150 is proudly supported by Bank of Queensland, Santos, The University of Queensland, Warner Bros. Movie World, Qantas, Bundaberg Rum, Clovely Estate, Coca-Cola, XXXX, Austereo, APN News, Network 10, Nova 106.9FM and Quest Community Newspapers.
