As Australasia?s population grows, fuel prices rise and the environmental crisis continues, more and more commuters are abandoning their cars and cramming into trains, trams and buses. Urban mobility is being pushed to the top of the political agenda, reflected in unprecedented investment in major urban rail. Increasing congestion in major cities is posing huge economic and environmental pressures, and the importance of an efficient urban rail network has never been greater.

The Australasian Railway Association is proud to present the inaugural UrbanRAIL 2009 conference on the 17th and 18th of March 2009 at Harbours Edge, Sydney. With case studies of the key light rail and metro rail projects in the region and analysis of international practice, the two day conference will showcase the latest thinking in urban rail project management, best practice and technology.
