Kenmore Bypass consultation extended

In response to significant community interest, Main Roads has extended the Kenmore Bypass Planning Study consultation period to early 2009, to give everyone the chance to have their say.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said since the consultation period began on November 3, hundreds of submissions on the Stage 2 planning options had been received.

"Community feedback is an important part of the road planning process and given the high level of interest in the options, Main Roads has extended the consultation period until February 2009," Mr Pitt said.

"Main Roads started public displays on November 6 at Kenmore Village, where more than 300 members of the community turned up to view the options.

"Since then, the project team has spoken to a further 1000 people at displays held at local shopping centres.

"Given this intense public interest in the planning study, this extension will ensure the whole community has enough time to provide the project team with their comments."

Submissions can be made via email, post, completing a feedback form or calling the project enquiry line by Friday, 13 February 2009.

The Kenmore Bypass Planning Study is investigating whether the three-kilometre preserved corridor between Moggill Road at Pullenvale and the Centenary Motorway at Fig Tree Pocket could provide a solution to existing congestion problems on Moggill Road in the Kenmore area.

The Kenmore Bypass Study involves a three-stage consultation process:

Stage 1: Gather information - community and stakeholder feedback will be gathered to help develop draft planning options (completed).

Stage 2: Present planning options - a number of options will be presented to the community and feedback will be sought to determine a preferred option (current).

Stage 3: Develop preferred option (2009) - the preferred option developed from community input and technical studies will be presented for final comment.
