RAIL Back On Track - Media Release 3 August 2007

Brisbane: Congestion, Chaos and Confusion!  What next?

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has called for the Queensland Minister of Transport to outline what is going to done to address the train cancellations which are now a regular event on TransLink Citytrain services.

Robert Dow said:

?Again this evening I was on the 4.38 pm Central to Ipswich service.  It was overloaded leaving central and by the time it left Roma Street no more passengers could board the train.  Many commuters were left behind.  This also occurred at Milton and Toowong.  For the fourth week in a row timetabled services have been cancelled on a Friday with no notice, leading to more congestion and delays.?

?It is time the Minister of Transport and TransLink came clean on admitting the problems which are now a chronic feature of public transport in Brisbane, and importantly what is going to be done in the short and long term to fix it up. Today, figures were released showing a 23% increase in full buses in July compared to June in Brisbane.  This is appalling.  People cannot get on buses or trains! Commuters have had enough.?

?There is much concern as to what is going occur during the Brisbane Ekka.  The system cannot cope now with normal commuter requirements. One can only imagine the congestion, chaos and confusion that will be Brisbane public transport during the Ekka.?

?How about it Minister?  What?s going on??
