Queensland:  Welcome back steam locomotive C17 number 720!

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)  a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has congratulated the Australian Railway Historical Society ? Queensland Division on the occasion of the welcome back into steam of C17 class  locomotive number 720 to be celebrated on Sunday the 29th July 2007 at Rosewood Railway Museum (1).

Robert Dow said:

?Preservation of Australia?s railway heritage is an important community focus for many volunteer railway organisations.  It is to the credit of the Australian Railway Historical Society - Queensland Division that they have been successful in restoring back to operation one of Queensland?s grand steam locomotives.?

?Locomotive class C17 number 720 first entered service on the Queensland Government Railways in February 1923. It was still running in late December 1967 but was withdrawn from service shortly after that. After being in a park at Goondiwindi it went to Rosewood in 1994 where restoration and rebuilding began. It will be the second oldest operational steam loco in Queensland when returned to service at Rosewood.?

?A number of trains will be operating during the day at the Rosewood Railway Museum (1) and visitors are very welcome to join in the day?s activities and experience the romance of railways and steam!?
