Congestion on Northern lines

One thing that seems to be overlooked is that the current line between Roma Street and Eagle Junction (possibly Northgate) is already close to fully utilised.  Many services stop between stations due to congestion in peak hour.  Adding more lines and stations further North will only make this worse.

The solution is most likely going to be expensive and difficult but it will strangle further expansion of the Northern capacity.

Welcome Banyoboy,

Spot on, thanks for your comments.  See this release today too http://backontrack.org/mbs/index.php?topic=341.0

One way of reducing the number of through trains on the CBD axis is to loop them back via an upgraded Exhibition loop.  For example trains in on the western line head back out via Bowen Hills, loop, Milton and so forth.  Ditto for some Northern services  loop back from Roma St.

There are innovative timetable improvements that will increase capacity.  The present paths will have to change to allow further capacity increases.

Cheers

I reakon some Northgate to Corinda AM and PM weekday peak services might be of great benefit in reducing overcrowding for commuters' on inner city platforms ie Nundah, Toombul, Wooloowin, Albion also Milton, Auchenflower, Taringa etc
