As a student i gotta say i'm not too keen on this "smart" card thing at all... infact, it doesn't sound smart at all.

It's hard enough as it is to scrap together money to buy a weekly ticket, now they want me to pay for multiple trips in a day (as i travel between campuses)... then if i so happen to forget, BAMMM... heres a fine!?

This is stupid.. stop trying to reinvent the wheel.  :-\

I think the TRANSLink Smart card will hit hard students who do multiple trips during the day as you suggest BeeBee87.  We mentioned that in the Brisbanetimes article the other day too.  Students also need to travel on weekends to get to the library, exams and so forth.  Let alone work.

Weekly tickets are a great thing for the public, they help to encourage people to use public transport 7 days a week and keep it affordable.  Very important to keep encouraging people to use public transport for the obvious reasons of trying to help minimise road congestion (which will only get worse if that is possible) and more environmentally sustainable transport overall.

We will continue to try to alert the public to the real implications of this Smart card.  It would not be difficult to allow weekly and monthly options as one can do now.

Our main Smart card thread is here --> http://backontrack.org/mbs/index.php?topic=135.0

Thanks for your comments BeeBee87 !
