Media Release 9 April 2008

SEQ:  QR Passenger Services Congratulated

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and advocate for public transport commuters has congratulated QR Passenger Services for their community engagement concerning the recent timetable changes on the Translink rail network, and ongoing consultation for further changes later this year.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

?A new timetable for the Translink rail network was introduced on the 31st March 2008.?

?It is fair to say that overall the timetable has seen an increase in services, but there are some local impacts for a number of commuters due to changed service patterns.?

?The rail timetable is very complex.  Rail commuters do need to look at the timetable with a view to perhaps changing their times of travel from what the old timetable dictated to times that better suit the new options.?

?QR has responded promptly to critical issues that have been identified on the Ferny Grove line in particular, and that is appreciated by all. Some issues still remain on other lines.?

?The new timetable will allow for the addition of new services as the latest Interurban Multiple Unit and Suburban Multiple Unit trains are delivered and brought into service.?

?QR is to be congratulated for their ?Meet the Manager? initiatives (1).?

?RAIL Back On Track members were very impressed also with the response by Ms Anna Whybird, General Manager of Communications & Community Relations Passenger Services to commuters? concerns on a Courier Mail Online News Blog (2).
A first class demonstration of real time communication.?

?QR Passenger Services are doing an excellent job with the limited resources at their disposal. It is necessary to further increase trains and crew to meet the requirements of an expanding population, and to cope with looming fuel price rises and environmental costs.?

?The massive expenditure on roads needs to be directed to sustainable transport solutions to ensure the rail capacity is available today and tomorrow for the long haul.?
