Good afternoon

We are pleased to announce that work to construct the Eastern Busway (Buranda to Main Avenue) is complete.

To celebrate, we are hosting a community open day on Saturday 27 August 2011 and invite you, your family and friends to walk the busway between 10am and 2pm.

The attached brochure provides more detail on what to expect at the event and how to access the busway.

Buses will operate along the busway from Monday 29 August 2011 and information will be available at the open day. Alternatively, you can contact TransLink for more information on 13 12 30 or visit www.translink.com.au

We hope to see you at the event.

Kind regards
Eastern Busway Project Team

Yeah I might go to take a look. For $465 million, what I see better be worth it.

I really want to, just to see how it finished up. I worked on it for a bit during 1st semester this year. Not sure if I'm going to have time or not though, I've got a lot going on at the moment.

Near which station?

I'll probably drop by for a look.

Attended the official opening by the Premier, Minister for Transport and other local MPs this morning, 27th.  Fair crowd despite the rain which has been light but steady.  Went for a walk to the SEB junction to Langlands Park.

Photographs to follow.  Unfortunate such a wet day, I am sure more would have ventured out if less inclement.  Good to catch up with a few too!

Is it just me or were the time estimates on the displays different (format or something, not sure) to other busway stations?

O_128

Im surprised that there are LED rather than LCD displays on the platforms.

Not sure what the reasoning was. I thought the plans I saw did have LCD monitors up on the platforms (like underneath Stones Corner) but they put in the LED ones instead.

I also don't know whos idea the grey and orange colour scheme for the tunnel entrances was. It is horrible.

Did you manage to chat to any Minsiters Bob? I had a very big sleep in and didn't even make it there until about half an hour before the end.
Still got a sausage though.

PS, the TL QR/Busway network map is further vandalised now...Ugh why cant they just keep lines at 45 and 90 degrees like how it was originally set out. Looks crap with how they have drawn recent additions:

Basic fixes:

1. 5 colours only for the lines.  "Sector 1" shares a colour (currently the green ones), "Sector 2" shares another (FG, Shorncliffe, Doomben, Cleveland and Beenleigh) and Gold Coast to Airport has its own.  GC to airport is the only service with a standard off-peak express stopping pattern.  Use colours which will contrast properly for somebody with colour blindness.  The fourth would be Ekka and the fifth would be the busways.

2. Distort scale further in the inner city to remove clutter.

3. Remove the 529 and 539 from the map.  Seriously, these are inconsequential services for a rail/busway map.  I would keep the 303/304 Pinkenba and 649 Sunshine Coast railbuses because they supplement existing train services.  Use the space for other info.

4. Rename Park Road to Boggo Road to save on space on the map.

5. Remove the "Beenleigh Line" etc descriptions from the map itself.  The key and terminating points should be sufficient (eg see the CityRail map).

6. Remove fare zone information.  It is too convoluted and meaningless to the people who actually need to look at the map to find their bearings.

7. Identify inaccessible stations by exception (ie the presumption is that all stations should be accessible but for those which are indicated as being either not accessible or are only accessible with assistance).  This cuts down on the icons shown.

8. Identify Exhibition by name on the map - the current "Exhibition Line and Station" is vague as they have no referent, particularly for somebody with vision/colour problems.

I actually think that the basic fix is to move the label "PA Hospital" to the other side of the Beenleigh line.

And (as Gazza sort of says) have a straight line from Buranda to Stone's Corner.

Yes Gazza had a brief chat to the Minister.  More social chit chat but always good to show support for public transport.  Glad you were able to make the day.

The Eastern Busway connects communities in Brisbane's eastern suburbs to Brisbane City, major shopping centres, workplaces and the University of Queensland (UQ).

It was officially opened on Saturday 27 August 2011.

Its almost as if she can't justify why the busway was built. "buses off the road" shows just how stupid our pollies are.

No, I think it demonstrates how stupid the community is. The pollies are just parroting the community here not the other way round. It would be nice to have some leadership, but don't hold your breath.

That may be, but you'd think that the pollies would spruik the benefits of attracting people to public transport.

From many in the community's perspective, getting those damn buses off the road is a benefit.

That may be, but there would be others that think of the roads they could have had for the $456m.
