This morning I was accompanied by Mr Paul Scurrah Executive General Manager QR Passenger and three senior QR Passenger staff for the journey into Central.  True to form the service was fully loaded by Indooroopilly and there after an overload.  Radio interviews on 612 ABC Brisbane were done prior to and after the journey. Thanks for the interest Spencer and 612!

Regular Oxley rail commuter and RAIL BoT member Mozz also accompanied us on the journey.  Mozz was also able to give constructive input as did some of the passengers on board EMU07.

Mr Scurrah and his staff observed first hand significant passenger congestion this morning.

On behalf of rail commuters in Brisbane, but particularly the Ipswich line I would like to thank Mr Scurrah and his staff for taking the time to observe the issues first hand.  Mr Scurrah is well aware of the problems on the Caboolture line as well and I think we can look forward to some improved service outcomes.

Good on you OzBob . . Great to see you are getting this kind of response.

I try to avoid the overcrowding myself by getting later trains to the city from Darra. The problem with that was that there were no car parks left at Darra after 7.30am. So I went and bought an electric scooter which is easy to park at Darra.   8)

Now I am catching the 8.09 (from Darra) Doomben train which is express from Corinda to Milton stopping only at Indro. It is never full and usually easy to get a window seat at Darra and is a nice pleasant ride to Fortitude Valley.  ;D

Keep up the good work!  :-t

Thanks Mike, that sounds like a great way to get around!

Cheers

Lawrence Springborg rides crowded train, promises overhaul
Article from: AAP

November 18, 2008 10:40am

STATE Opposition leader Lawrence Springborg says a morning commute on a crowded train has convinced him of the need to overhaul the system.
Mr Springborg and Liberal National Party transport spokeswoman Fiona Simpson joined the morning commute from Darra, on the Ipswich line, on Tuesday to experience one of Brisbane's most crowded train trips.

Mr Springborg said crowding and problems with the computerised Go Card system were evident on the 7.40am from Darra to Central Station.

"Notwithstanding the fact we were standing virtually shoulder-to-shoulder, a number of people commented to me, including on the train and when I got off, that it actually wasn't quite as many as other mornings," Mr Springborg said.

"So I'd hate to see it on the other mornings - it'd be like double sardines, I reckon.

"It was quite an uncomfortable experience."

Mr Springborg said commuters were having difficulty using their Go Cards because condensation, caused by Brisbane's spate of wet weather, had rendered the terminal screens unreadable.

He said the LNP's transport policy will be released soon.

"(It) will have ways of reducing rail congestion, making sure that people can get on a train at the right time and not be standing shoulder-to-shoulder," Mr Springborg said.

"It will include a range of options to ensure appropriate rolling stock to be able to deal with the congestion at those particular peak times.

"Commuters in the Brisbane rail network have been let down very badly by this Government."
