QuoteReleased 23/01/2019
Canberra commuters can now purchase tickets or top up their MyWay card at a Ticket Vending Machine as we get ready for the introduction of light rail and a more integrated and innovative public transport system.
The new Ticket Vending Machines are easy to use and are stationed in major bus interchanges in Tuggeranong, Woden, Gungahlin and the City, with Belconnen coming soon.
"You might have already seen these machines popping up around Canberra. I'm pleased to say they are now up and running and ready for use!" said Minister for Transport Meegan Fitzharris.
"As we get ready for a new bus network to begin and light rail to start operating in coming months, our new ticket vending machines will make it easier for people to use public transport and leave the car at home.
"Commuters can use the machines to check the balance on their MyWay card, top up their MyWay card instantly, or purchase a single or daily adult or concession ticket.
"The ticket vending machines will also be available at all light rail stops, when operational.
"You can top up your MyWay card using cash or card (PayWave only). When using a Ticket Vending machine, you are also able to select from four languages, which are English, Arabic, Chinese and Italian.v"While you can't purchase a MyWay card from a Ticket Vending Machine, customers are still able to purchase or top up a MyWay card at our MyWay recharge agents," Ms Fitzharris said.
Ticket Vending Machines are touch screen based, user-friendly and are now available for use.

Riotact---> Supplier finally secured for Canberra's new public transport ticketing system

QuoteSeven years after it was first flagged, a supplier has been secured to deliver Canberra's new smart public transport ticketing system.

NEC Australia has signed a contract to design and develop a cashless system, which will update the current MyWay card.

QuoteIt will also be designed for future integration with cross-jurisdictional services such as Queanbeyan.

Finally and interesting choice. Now the challenge is to get it rolled out in a timely manner.

It's good that they designing the system for cross border operations as well. Something the needs to be implemented in Se Qld with the Tweed.

Shouldn't be necessary once both jurisdictions allow contactless credit card payments across all modes. I suspect we're only a year or two out from that

Even then a would be user will have to pay for 2 separate fares whereas if it was a part of the Smart Ticketing it may only require another zone.

Yes it's the zone boundaries and integration that is the issue here, both at the Tweed and Queanbeyan. It's not really the tap n pay functionality.

SurfRail

Neither problem is going anywhere in a hurry because the NSW government won't cooperate.
