Not realy a cost effective solution to remove what is effectively a minor inconvenience of either walking on the other side of the platform or waiting untill the train clears.

The yellow lines are too close to the lift on both sides of the platform so if you alight west of the lift you have no choice but to cross the yellow line to access the lift or stairs. My understanding is that passengers are supposed to remain behind the yellow line at all times unless there is a train stopped at the platform.

Sadly a nanny state misaprension,  apply a little logic and think about why station announcements are made, the train approaching platform ?  and an express train will pass this station ??

There are stations where these announcements aren't made late at night for noise pollution reasons.  I don't think you should rely on such an announcement - equipment can malfunction.

I do agree though, that it wouldn't be cost effective to realign to widen the platform.

Goodna thread is 'bubbling over' ...

A couple of relevant matters.

According to the signage, passengers are not meant to go around the lift well.  They do off course, for shade and to smoke.  Also pax detraining from the front (up) rear (down) and  stroll past to access lift stairs, and occasionally go card readers.  One has to be alert as a lot of coalies etc. can sneak up.

There is a plan to redo Goodna, at that time the platform would be widened.  This would probably coincide with the triplication to Redbank.  That won't happen for a long time I guess, unless we can drum up a lot of support at the water bubbler commissioning ...   :P

Interesting.  The sign does clearly state "Passengers not permitted beyond this point".  For that to work though, the trains can't stop beyond it.

Thanks to our local MP Mrs Jo-Ann Miller asking a question at last years parliamentary estimates, we now have bridge protection beams on the rail bridge Layard St Goodna.  This is just DOWN from Goodna station.  It has been a frequent bridge strike location in years passed and the bridge is not a strong one.  Good to note that besides the beams, the bridge itself has been reconditioned too.

Queensland Times --> QR's slow going repairs force woman to carry walker up stairs

QuoteAN ELDERLY woman suffering severe spinal pain has been left to drag her walker up stairs in Goodna with a Queensland Rail elevator broken since December.

The dud lift has left Ipswich pensioner Michelle Murray with no other choice but to pull herself up several flights of stairs.

"I have a walker and I have a lot of trouble with my back and legs," she said.

"I've got serious back problems - my spine is absolutely no good.

"I struggle every week trying to get up and down those horrible steps."

The elevator provides the only access over the tracks into Goodna for people with low mobility.

The 71-year-old Ipswich woman said it was a painful and exhaustive trip that often took more than 20 minutes.

"I say it's about 150 steps when you've got to carry a walker - it feels like that many," she said.

The broken elevator has forced Ms Murray to reduce the amount of shopping because of the struggle of lugging it up the station stairs.

She slammed the time it took for Queensland Rail to fix its infrastructure.

"I can't see why it would take that long to get a part for that thing," she said of the broken lift.

She said the lift regularly broke down and people with limited mobility were left to struggle up the daunting steps.

"It's not good enough the way Goodna residents are being treated," she said.

Council Of The Ageing Queensland chief executive officer Mark Tucker-Evans said it was unacceptable for the elevator to be out of order for so long.

"We would suggest when a lift is out of action it really needs to be marked as urgent," he said.

"With an ageing population who often rely on public transport, if they can't access the station they can't get about."

Mr Tucker-Evans said access to rail services was a problem for elderly travellers and he encouraged them to contact COTA with transport issues.

A Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman said the lift was severely vandalised and repairs were due to finish this month.

"We needed to source specialised parts from overseas, which resulted in the works taking longer than expected," she said.

"We understand the impact these delays are having and apologise for the inconvenience."

Queenslanders with Disability Network's public transport representative John McPherson said the Goodna lift "had a history of breaking down".

"What I would expect of QR is they hone in and find out why the thing keeps breaking down," he said.

Just for You @ozbob

What do you think of just rebuilding goodna off the curve in line with the motorway overpass.
High level side platforms, dead straight.

ozbob

^  that is the actually the longer term plan as I understand it.  I recall some discussion on the third line from Darra West <> Redbank and Goodna station was going to be relocated as you have suggested as part of that, so good thinking!

This is looking in an UP direction (towards Ipswich)

Very tight as is I agree but I think the solution is to move the station towards Ipswich a bit and straighten a little.  I would hope that the structures they are building have been placed with respect to the planned track amplifcation (am I being too optimistic?  ;) )

The third line Darra West <> Redbank is not in play at the moment.  Seems to dropped off the infrastructure plans.

Highlights at Goodna was the water bubbler in Jan 2013,  cosmetic upgrade 2019 and the recent addition of PIDS in 2021.
At least the RSL is handy as it is a long time between drinks ...  :P
