Regional Transport Plans

Queensland has developed Regional Transport Plans that cover the entire state. 

These plans will guide the planning of an efficient and responsive transport system in Queensland over the next 15 years.

The delivery of the plans is a requirement of the Transport Planning and Coordination Act (1994). The plans provide a bridge between local, Queensland and Australian government planning, drawing from and supporting the region's goals.

QUESTION:

With reference to the South East Queensland Regional Transport Plan using increased public
and active transport mode share as a measure of its success—

Will the Minister advise the public and active mode share targets and timeframe for each TMR
region that the plan will be measured against?

ANSWER:

I thank the Member for Chatsworth for the question.

The Palaszczuk Government is committed to investment in public and active transport, and is
delivering its sixth record transport and roads infrastructure program in a row, outlining
$27.5 billion in investment over the next four years and estimated to support an average of 24,000
direct jobs over the life of the program.

The SEQ Regional Transport Plans were developed in consultation with local government and
stakeholders and published in March 2021. The plans align with ShapingSEQ, the South East
Queensland Regional Plan (2017) to coordinate planning priorities towards common land use,
economic and transport goals.

Regional Transport Plans target ongoing sustained growth in public and active transport. The
Active Transport mode share in SEQ has remained relatively stable between 2007 and 2019 at
10.2 per cent. Public transport patronage has been impacted significantly by the COVID-19
pandemic. In the lead up to the pandemic, public transport patronage had increased by
7.6 per cent (between 2014–15 and 2018–19). TMR will continue to monitor how travel patterns
and demands in SEQ change as a result of pandemic impacts.
