The new elevated Jimboomba Creek Bridge is 3 to 4 metres higher than the previous road—reducing the chances of a weather event completely closing this section of the Mt Lindesay Highway.

During a major flood (like a more than 1 in 5-year rain event), southbound traffic is diverted to the new northbound carriageway using contra flow traffic arrangements.

It's all part of the Camp Cable Road to Tamborine Street and Johanna Street upgrade to improve capacity and flood immunity. You can read about it right here fal.cn/3eyjG

Read some of the comments:

"But why didn't they just build 2 high bridges ?"

Yes, it appears that there is a brand new looking road - one high bridge, the other diving into flood water...

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

I think they just put new barriers and resurfaced as part of the works, its still the "old" road.

There's something similar at the South Pine River crossing coming into Strathpine.

I figure floods are a sufficiently uncommon occurrence and the bridge structure itself still has plenty of life left in it, so redirecting traffic every so often is a worthwhile trade off.

Looks similar to what they've done with the Yeppen floodplains south of Rocky as well.

Stretches the limited funds further?
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
