From Monday 22 June platform and stop names will change at Queen Street bus station, to improve consistency across the TransLink network.

Platform names will change from A to 1, B to 2 and C to 3. See below for a complete list of old and new stop names for the station.

There will be no change to where your bus arrives or departs from.

I thought it was only Koala, Platypus and Crocodile? I liked those names more though, not helpful for legibility though.

Kangaroo was 1A-D (formerly A1-4).  Platypus was the rest of platform 1.

I loved those names too. Made it fun to catch the Bus and took your mind off the infrequency of the bus system at the time

Brisbanetimes --> Queen Street bus station to get $3 million makeover following flooding incident

Brisbane's Queen Street bus station will get a $3 million makeover, with work set to begin on Friday.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the work would improve the waiting area for passengers and make travel easier and more accessible.

"New lighting, tactile ground indicators, hand rails and seating will be installed, as well as a new ceiling and tiles," Ms Trad said.

"During the works, passengers will have access to alternate stops and platforms to catch thier normal service."

About 80,000 passengers pass through Queen Street bus station every week.

To decrease disruption, the work will be conducted at night and on weekends.

Commuters will still be able to catch their normal service, but parts of the station will be closed at night and on weekends, so platforms may change.

Member for Brisbane Central Grace Grace said the refurbishment would provide an incentive for people to switch from private vehicles to public transport.

TransLink and Transport and Main Roads staff will work to ensure passengers are aware of temporary changes during the works.

Passengers will be asked to follow signs at the station.

Construction is expected to be completed early next year.

The last time the Queen Street bus station made the headlines, it was after a water pipe burst in April, closing the station and the Myer Centre above it.

Meanwhile, Ms Trad has marked 100 days since being sworn in as Transport Minister.

Ms Trad said there was some very strong progress on the Fixing the Trains agenda, and she announced $6 million for upgrades to Park Road, Bowen Hills, Wacol, Goodna, Manly, Murrarie, Windsor, Wilston and Beenleigh stations, and a mural at Roma Street station.

The improvements will include landscaping, evening out footpaths, making sure pedestrian crossings are clearly marked and repainting.

Ms Trad said there were 19 more drivers on the system since October and more people in driver training schools.

"I've really enjoyed the last 100 days, it has been challenging, but it is a job the Premier gave me to do and one that I'm very pleased to be doing on behalf of the government," she said.

As part of the first 100 days plan, bins have also been installed at six inner-city stations.

The bins were removed before the G20 in Brisbane in 2014.

It's so badly designed for current purposes.  It's the sort of thing that really should be wiped out and rebuilt from scratch.

What they need is to widen the tunnel to 4 lanes wide, platforms on both sides a la King George Square with exits straight into the QSM, through buses to and from KGS using the middle lanes and better turnaround arrangements.

Queen Street bus station upgrade

The Queen Street bus station is 29 years old, and in need of an upgrade to make it a better, brighter and more comfortable place for passengers and staff.

The Queen Street bus station upgrade will provide an improved station environment with a modern, brighter design, and upgraded features for people with a disability.

Project status

The tender for construction has been awarded to James Trowse Constuctions.

Upgrade works will start on Friday 26 May.

Benefits of the upgraded bus station

The Queen Street bus station upgrade will:

    improve the station and waiting environment for public transport users and visitors
    provide upgraded station accessibility features, which meet national disability standards.

Construction timeframes

Construction will start on Friday 26 May, with expected completion due in early 2018, construction conditions permitting.

During this time you can expect:

    bus stop closures
    bus services to be relocated to other stops within the station
    changes to station access from Queen Street Mall and The Myer Centre.

The final stages of Queen Street bus station's $3 million makeover are being completed to ensure it has full capacity for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Work began in May on the station's first major refurbishment since it opened in 1989.

While the upgrade will not increase the station's capacity, it will include upgrading the ceiling, floor and wall tiles and wall panels.

The refurbishment, carried out by James Trowse Constructions, will also upgrade seating, handrails and lighting to ensure the station meets disability compliance.

A Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman said the work would improve the travel experience for the 80,000 passengers who use the station every week.

"[It will] provide an enhanced experience for the thousands of commuters, shoppers and tourists who travel in and out of Brisbane's CBD each day."

The timeline for the completion of the upgrade said "early 2018" but TMR has now confirmed it expected the work to be finished by the end of March, before the start of the Commonwealth Games in April.

A majority of the events will be held on the Gold Coast, except for preliminary basketball events in Cairns and Townsville and the shooting and track cycling events, which will be in Brisbane.

South-east Queensland's public transport system will be key to getting spectators to events.

Ticket holders will be able to access public transport across the south-east for free.

Stage one to four of the refurbishment is complete and work on stage five and six started in December.

Work on stages seven to nine is yet to commence and will involve the closure of stops 1F, 1G and 1H.

Bus stop closures will be 9pm to 5am Monday to Thursday and Friday 9pm through to 5am Monday.

Alternative stops will be available.

The upgrade followed the station being forced to temporarily close in April because of flooding caused by a burst water pipe.

Likewise doubting it, seeing that the venues are outside the BT service area.  I'm not sure who is actually supplying transport for the Belmont and Chandler events.

Guys I asked some questions of the TMR, Translink and BCC hotshots around this last week and got the full run around. I was asking specifically about lift access to platform 2 (there has been none since early 2017). Hey presto we get an article promising full disability access. Articles like this are no coincidence and must be handled with all the skepticism you can muster.

No plans for the disability access portions have gone past the noses of the TMR accessibility reference group so you better believe that got raised with same hotshots yesterday :-)

They could have multiple placed around like they do with the current electronic advertising boards. Or you could share with the existing electronic advertising boards. Interchanging with an ad then the departure screen 10 sec intervals?.  Sharing with advertising could help subsidise a departure screen!?

Brisbanetimes --> Vandals strike fast at Queen Street bus hub freshened up for Games

Thousands of commuters can now enjoy a $3 million makeover of the Queen Street bus station, which has been completed in time for the Commonwealth Games.

But vandals have already tarnished the renovated CBD transport hub.

When Fairfax Media visited the station on Wednesday, vandalism included a smashed light cover and a graffitied display board.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the refurbishment project, which began in May last year, included aesthetic and access issues, including upgrades to ceilings, floors, walls, seating and bus boarding points, stairs, hand rails and lighting.

Mr Bailey said it would create a brighter, more accessible facility and a modern look and feel.

It was the station's first major refurbishment since it opened in 1989, and included upgrades to ensure the station was disability compliant.

In response to the damage witnessed this week, Mr Bailey said it was disappointing when public infrastructure was vandalised.

"Depending on the location, TransLink will fix any damage to the network as per normal maintenance and liaise with police to catch those responsible," he said.

An estimated cost for the repairs was not available on Wednesday afternoon.

Brisbane City Council spends more than $4 million each year to remove graffiti, with council workers scrubbing off or painting over more than 73,000 tags in 2017.

Member for McConnel Grace Grace said the refurbishments would provide an incentive for people to switch from private vehicles to public transport, reducing congestion in the inner-city.

Ms Grace said a comfortable journey was vital for the thousands of Brisbane residents and visitors who travelled to the CBD every day.

The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4 to 15.
