Slowly falling away?   Why?  Not enough peak capacity (3 car trains)?  #railfail generally?

Average Citytrain network growth is + 3.36% for FY 17/18.

Most stations (apart from Ferny->Oxford Park section) have a fairly frequent bus service direct to the City right outside the station.

I would assume that due to the reduced and unreliable services, people moved to the buses as they are just as convenient as the train. This is shown from decreases at every station (except for 3) between 15/16 and 16/17 (assuming this was due to rail fail). It would be interesting to see if patronage increased at the bus stops surrounding the stations.

I'd then have a guess to say that some people still don't "trust" the rail service and choose to take a bus instead.

I could be completely wrong but that's how I'm seeing it.

Or it could just be the sheer fact that most of these stations are within 15 kms of the City and driving is just simply easier.

I think that would be it...buses have shown negligible growth over the last year.... eg: 353,390,333,61
Many at those stations have just given up on PT altogether.....a sad outcome for a line once hailed as having huge potential for growth along its inner sections...

Station upgrades at Newmarket and alderley would have effected it as well

Interesting though that both those stations showed an increase in passenger trips, most of the other stations went backwards ..

As a regular user of the FG line I think there's a few things which would have affected numbers. All of which have been discussed previously.

- Mon - Thurs timetable seems ok for now (both AM and PM). But the Friday timetable is, well, a debacle. (too harsh?)

- Replace 3 car services in the AM with 6 car, the 3's are full by Mitchie/Gaythorne.

- Ticket price/Cost

- Integration issues with at busses at key interchanges. Enoggera, Mitchie and FG have good interchanges (imho), but until proper bus reform happens, they're going to be continued to be underutilised/wasted. Siting on the train staring at them has me shaking my head.

- Parking at stations (can be rectified by the point above)

On the rare occasions I have to drive (for work purposes), you notice the increase in traffic on Samford road. It used to start to be congested well past Mitchie SHS (almost to Glenholm street). Now, it's backed up to Dawsons Pde intersection.

Just my 2cents.
