Rockingham Tram

A light rail line for Rockingham was first proposed by the state government back in 2002, when the location of the Rockingham Railway Station was moved from the centre to the edge of Rockingham. Unfortunately it hasn't been built yet, with a bus service running the route instead. 
The light rail line is still part of the City Council's transport plan, and they reaffirmed their commitment to it in 2017.

The proposed route goes from the station to the foreshore, via the shopping centre and university campus. The route would also serve the proposed Wanliss Street Marina.

In linking the key activity nodes of the city, the tram line would be a great service to the local population and would likely boost business, encourage visitors and revitalise the area.   

It has an estimated cost of $107 million, which is likely to be beyond the council's budget without state government funding.

Does this remain unfunded because it's a safe seat (both state and federally), I  wonder?

I think the reason it remains unfunded is because there is brt between the station and the Rockingham foreshore, and that is handling the passenger loads fine
