SEQ: Brisbane Metro Business Case Welcomed and Supported!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has welcomed today's announcement of the completion of the Brisbane Metro Business case (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"In the words of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, the Brisbane Metro ' will supercharge the busways '. We agree.

"It does make a lot of sense to capitalise on the existing busway infrastructure to improve capacity of the core bus network by using frequent bi-articulated buses on the core routes. In so doing this frees up more single unit buses for deployment to the suburbs for better frequency feeders, better coverage and more cross suburban routes. It will remove the CBD bus congestion. The Brisbane Metro business case is not so much concrete - the busways already exist,  but a lot of improved service. This is reflected in the strong BCR of 1.91.

"It is pleasing to note that BCC took on board the constructive criticism of the original proposal, and community feedback, to further develop the Brisbane Metro proposal into this best solution for improving the Brisbane bus network."

"A small but important point.  We like to see a dedicated bicycle path on Victoria Bridge.  This might be possible  to achieve as further detailed planning is done."

"Overall though we are very pleased with the outcomes presented today, and it has our full support."
