gotta love all the "harden up....you should see other cities....theres room for more!" blog comments...what the knobs dont realise is that there is a little affiliation in this town called BT/BCC.....who are well skilled in the art of "bus vs rail personalised rocket" implementation.......ultimately increasing  fares if the rocket is given the green light....
samford rd rocket anyone? Keperra residents wouldnt even need to use the train >:D :-c >:D

Seriously though...QR will have no choice but to fix it if the seq fare review achieves it M.O and increases patronage....

How about the QR spokespersons wait an extra 7-8mins next to their car until they can get into it to drive to work?
This isn't London where the next train is in the platform 46 seconds later!

Why does everyone want everything instantly for. 7-8 mins oooooooo. Big deal. Leave home a few minutes later. Leave home a few minutes earlier. If you are close to the city where you know a particular train is going to be crowded DON'T CATCH THE SAME BLOODY TRAIN DAY AFTER DAY and expect to get on.

A similar sort of thing happened on the Caboolture line with the old multiple stop patterns and express trains. People were choosing what trains they were catching. The one morning Cleveland all stops service always had lots of passengers onboard while the Roma Street service that arrived at Central 2 minutes earlier consistently had waaaaaaay lower patronage. I remember being on the Roma Street service and there were still spare seats all through out the carriage at Bowen Hills. Looked across to the left and the Cleveland train was at standing loads. And the express services was all over the place. Most people just watched the empty all stoppers stop and go. Then when the express service rolled in suddenly its almost at crush loads. The 7.24, 7.28, 7.32, 7.40, 7.45, 7.55 and 7.57 was so common for this. The 7.24 all stops still had a couple seats free/people standing around doors, the 7.28 Zillmere-Bowen Hills express was already at standing capacity on its 4th stop, the 7.32 was pretty quiet but building and the 7.40 strathpine-Bowen hills express was at full crush load capacity. The 7.46 all stops had good loads after Bald Hills while everyone packed scrums for the 7.55 Zillmere-Bowen Hills express. The first few carriages of the all stopper 2 minutes later was pretty much empty all the way to the city due to the station entrances Lawnton-Wooloowin.

Ye gods, we're going to see that with the new Caboolture perma-expresses, aren't we.

I forget, is it a cross-platform transfer inbound at Petrie?

SurfRail

^ It is.

Outbound looks like it will normally be platform 1 for Caboolture and Sunny Coast, platform 3 for Kippa-Ring, so easier to transfer for inbound than outbound.

Its unlikely we would see a repeat though. Some people might make the jump to get to the city 2 minutes earlier but most will stay on the train. Basically if you make the transfer you are just leapfrogging onto the service that arrives in the city before your original train does. IIRC the cross for the all MBRL city all stopper and Caboolture express is in the Sunshine-Virginia area.

One thing we will see is the Bowen Hills-Northgate overcrowding problem on Nambour, Caboolture and Petrie services fixed when the majority of those passengers get shifted onto the Airport, Doomben, Northgate and Shorncliffe services where there is currently a high amount of empty seats.

Plus also keeps to the (KISS) principle from a stopping pattern perspective and boarding/alighting from those stations in question, only requiring 1 track pair (1 inbound/1 outbound platforms) for most of those stations.

The 06:54 3-car sardine can from Shorncliffe was so full this morning that someone accidentally stood on a guide dog!
Concerningly, there is no extra Northgate service before this one in the new timetable. Given the number of passenger being added onto Shorncliffe Line services, BrizCommuter can see this service becoming even more of a basket case unless QR magically find a 6-car unit from somewhere.

Edit: blog post on this...

Chaos on Ferny Grove Line this morning. A 6-car service cancelled. Following 3-car service full by Mitchelton. Following 6-car service (7:31am thru Enoggera) full by Newmarket. Would expect that next 3-car service will also be full (as usual). Likely that some passengers might not be able to fit on 3 successive trains!

You still have 3-car trains on the FG line during peak? I thought that was gotten rid of years ago.

Yes, I keep going on about it! NGRs can't come soon enough.

07:10 ex Ferny Grove 3-car sardine can getting busier again this week, but still around 10 to 15% less loading than this time last year.

BrizCommuter

Continued observations suggest that patronage is down around 10-15% on many peak services compared to 2016. Interested to know others opinions?

^ I don't travel much in peak these days so no real direct observations.  But I do note the how the park n' rides and street parking around station is being used.  From Corinda out along the Ippy the car parks seem very full with lots of overflow at the usual places, Darra (streets), Gails and Wacol verges, Goodna is full most days as well, still some spaces available over the other side of highway park n' ride (this is hidden to many).  Dinmore is full most days now too.  Feeder buses at most of these places are bit of a hit and miss thing, I think punters are driving in from other locations and using the train for the final part of the journey.  Numbers from even full park n' rides are not really huge though.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Shouldn't that read:
The 4.50pm Ipswich to Kippa-Ring train is delayed 10 minutes due to inadequate train service caused by institutionalised incompetence.

Stillwater

Due to increased patronage?

OR

Due to too many people trying to cram onto a train because the next one won't be along for yonks ....

I bet some idiot at QR is saying: "We could run this train service perfectly if it wasn't for all those people queuing at the stations."
