^ Pity 'Get rid of BCC' is not one of the options.  :bna:

The problem with these surveys are:

1. More routes - Brisbane already has 200 or so bus routes. Adding more will spread the funding pool thin and result in a low patronage, coverage style network. More is not better. Frequency needs to be concentrated, and this implies less routes, not more.

More routes would cost more money, so fares would go UP.

2. More frequent PT services. This is in direct contradiction to #1. More frequency can be added, but the number of routes would
then have to go down (unless the budget was massively increased).

More frequency would also cost more money, and if routes are not cut, fares would go UP.

3. Cheaper fares We all know why fares are high. Enough said.

4. Park and Ride At around $40 000 - 50 000 per car parking space, park and ride is a terrible option because it is not scalable. Only limited application possible on the network. To fill 1 train would cost $50 million dollars. Filling a BCC bus (65 pax) would be $3.2 million per bus - more than the cost of the bus itself!

can BCC even fight traffic congestion.  Arent most of the major roads that are always blocked state roads.  On the northside there are a few shockers but I cannot see anyway of improving them within a reasonable budget, including better PT.   You should only consider an upgrade to a road is it gets regularly congested outside of peak hour.

@Robert_Dow @TransLinkSEQ Network reform is not the panacea - certainly not long term. Cheaper fares & PT infrastructure investment is key.

Does Brisbane City Council know how to operate public transport?

Investment? What, like throw money at the Quack Metro??

If Schrinner wants cheaper fares, STOP WASTING MONEY on waste and duplication!!

I think the DLM is starting to realise it is not only fares ...    ;)

Does that mean they'll be ignoring all comments in the "other option" section of Q3 calling for bus network reform? Because I would suggest most RBOT members (myself included) would use that opportunity to spell it out for BCC.

heck, I'm even prepared to waive my advisory services fee!!  ;)

What's that saying about "if you don't want the answer, don't ask the question?" The BCC council surely can't keep their heads in the sand for too much longer?

The survey isn't even valid as people can choose multiple options. So when someone says '76%', well, 76% of what?

:conf :hg

This is so crazy, it just defies belief that this is tolerated by the State Government. Ridiculous rockets from Zillmere, buses not on time left, right and centre, bus reform refusal costing millions and millions, black holes all over the place, staff instructed to boycott meetings, and to top it all off Quack Metro that will REDUCE busway capacity and probably can't even run over the Victoria Bridge because it is too heavy.

Rip up their contract already!!

I'm surprised that many people are asking for more park and rides.  They always ask for more parks, then complain that they need to walk so far from their car to the platform or how long it takes for the pedestrian lights to change.      Here's an idea, dont build a park and ride and have the council pay for free taxi's from peoples homes to the Bus stop/train station.   Certainly cheaper in the short term, for pretty much everyone.

Anyway, its a council survey, its made to deliver answers the council want.   Its just an illusion that you seem to have choice.

The survey is valid, it's 76% of the total number of people who responded. Representing the results in a pie chart (or in that case, a doughnut graph) is a bit disingenuous, since I would interpret it as proportions of a total where the options are exclusive from each other, but presenting the results in a bar chart is fine.
