With Ipswich local government elections just around the corner a controversy over election signs has erupted.

Patricia Petersen, who will either contest the mayoralty or Division 7, is front and centre of the fracas.

Division 3 candidates Hayley Finocchio and Steven Wood have also weighed in, with the trio accusing the Ipswich City Council of unfairness with its regulations over sign permits and saying that the $600 refundable bond was too much to pay.

Cr Andrew Antoniolli, council's chair of the health and regulation committee, said that "no-one who is a candidate will be refused a permit".
