MULTIPLE people are being treated by paramedics after the Kuranda Scenic Train collided with a bus on Draper St just after 4pm.

Around 22 people, believed to be staff members of the Endeavour Foundation, were on the bus when the train hit the rear and driver's side.

The train is believed to have hit the rear of the bus and the back windows have been shattered.

Tracy Bellero, who was a passenger on the bus, described the horrific scene.

"I feel sick, like I want to throw up," she said.

"It was a big bang, it was horrible."

One man has been carried from the scene on a stretcher screaming, while several others have major head wounds.

Paramedics have set up a makeshift triage area on the grass area beside the tracks.

You may have seen reports about a level crossing incident in Far North Queensland. At approximately 4.09pm, a bus in the path of the Kuranda Scenic Railway train was struck at a level crossing on Draper Street, Portsmith.

There were no passengers on board the train at the time of the incident as the train was returning to the stabling sheds after a day of service.

Police, emergency services and Queensland Rail response units are currently on site managing the incident. Our primary concern is for the people involved and thankfully early reports from the Queensland Ambulance Service suggest nobody has been critically injured.

The bus was full of people from the endeavour foundation so would have been a full on situation which ever way they look at it
