Noticed this morning that an old building in Mayne Rail Yard had been gutted by fire.  I don't think the building had anything in it.

That is actually a Toilet block. I don't know if has been used in awhile but a mate of mine said it was when he worked at Mayne as a cleaner.

In fact Huggies, it was one of the shunters' huts when Mayne still operated as a proper yard.
It was relocated to that position about 1978 when the northern down and relief road were slewed for the Ferny Grove flyover.
There were warning bells installed to these lines for the workers' safety.
It was abandoned following the closure of the yard in the mid 90s and has been deteriorating ever since.
It was regularly a haven for vagrants and graffiti attacks and more recently its windows and doors had been sheeted up.

It was only a matter of time before it became a victem of arson.
One hoped that this structure will be demolished and the area made good.
In fact that whole mayne stretch must leave an indelible mark of ugliness in the minds of visitors to and from the airport.

Perhaps QR should become a major player in the annual Clean Up Australia campaign.

The remains of the building were completely removed over the weekend.

Interesting. Anyway I was told Dunny at the time so I guess someone must have been pulling my leg unless they had a dunny inside ?

To be fair Huggies, there were dunnies (not ECs!!!) on the southern side of the building with a separate entrance.
As Derwan reports, all is no more and the area now fenced off.
If it's anything like a fallen tree in the same area which took years to remove, this area will remain a fenced monument to arson for some time.
We wait in anticipation!!!
