Rail buffs to steam into Ipswich

Rail heritage experts are being invited to submit expressions of interest to speak at The Workshops Rail Museum's Railway Heritage Conference.

So far, session themes for the conference from 24 to 28 July 2015 include tourism, engaging new audiences, care and conservation, volunteering and railway safety.

Director of the Workshops Rail Museum, Andrew Moritz said: "The conference theme 'Does the past have a future?' is expected to create debate and engagement as the challenges and opportunities of the industry are explored.

"Railway heritage operations and attractions must amaze, educate and entertain both the younger and older generations to survive into the future and this conference provides an opportunity for the industry to explore and debate how best to do that," he said.

"2015 is the perfect time to pause and reflect on the long term journey of railway heritage as we celebrate 150 years of rail in Queensland - all of it starting right here in Ipswich."

The Conference is scheduled to include keynote speakers, plenary sessions, break-out sessions and a proposed steam train trip to historic Grandchester station, retracing the first railway journeys in Queensland 150 years ago.

The Workshops Rail Museum is part of the Queensland Museum Network.
