Brisbane International fans, staff and volunteers travel free

Fans travelling to the Brisbane International in January will be ahead of the game even before they enter the venue with a free travel deal for ticketholders, staff and volunteers.

Minister for Transport Stirling Hinchliffe said in an event first, all staff and volunteers would be entitled to travel free to and from the Queensland Tennis Centre from today, 28 December and all ticketholders attending the tournament could travel free next year between 3 - 10 January to watch the main draw.

"The free travel deal with tournament tickets means more tennis fans can be part of the action and watch some of the world's best players serve up some great tennis," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"The Brisbane International is a major Queensland sporting event and with numbers increasing every year I strongly encourage all tennis patrons to take advantage of the free travel offer.

"With Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova defending their titles this year, the 2016 Brisbane International is sure to attract another record crowd. Over the eight day tournament, 100,000 people are expected to attend the Brisbane International Tennis.

"In a nod to the hardworking volunteers and staff this year, we're also extending the free travel deal to allow them to get to and from the Queensland Tennis Centre from 28 December."

Free travel applies to Brisbane City Council buses, scheduled Queensland rail city network services and includes shuttle buses operated by Kangaroo Bus Lines running between Corinda railway station and the Queensland Tennis Centre throughout the Brisbane International event.

Shuttle buses will run regularly from Corinda train station, and Yeerongpilly train station is a 10 - 15 minute walk from the venue.

Patrons attending the Brisbane International simply need to present their pre-purchased event ticket when they use public transport to travel free to and from the event. The free travel offer is available on TransLink scheduled passenger services and special event services for the day of the purchased ticket from the first to the last service.

Staff and volunteers should present their staff accreditation or volunteer pass.
