Double decker bus increasing service capacity in the hills

When: From Monday 12 January 2015

The second Adelaide double-decker will hit the streets in the hills from Monday, 12 January 2015, instead of Monday 5 January.

The council need to undertake some additional tree trimming work, along the route to ensure the safe running of the bus.

The double decker will be used on the hills T840 route to provide additional capacity for this highly patronised route.

The T840 hills route travels from Mount Barker to city via the South Eastern Freeway and is a limited stop service which operates Monday to Friday only.

The T840 starts at Mount Barker Dutton Road Park'n'Ride from 6:23 am and runs until 3:56 pm, the return journey starts from stop D1 on Currie Street in the city from 10:14 am until 5:50 pm weekdays.

The introduction of double-decker bus to this Adelaide Metro route is an initiative of the State Government to increase capacity on popular services to help meet demand.

From Monday, 12 January regular T840 commuters may be pleasantly surprised when a double decker bus service turns-up to their stop instead.

The fully air-conditioned bus can accommodate 85 seated passengers providing a far greater capacity that standard 47 and 67 seat buses and has two designated wheelchair spaces.

This introduction of a double-decker hills bus follows the introduction of the double-decker JetExpress which was introduced on an airport route in early November this year.

The State Government are currently monitoring the airport JetExpress double decker, the service is currently being trialled for six months to see how efficient it is, how customers respond to it, and how it compares and links in with existing services.
