From Boxing Day to 4th January 2014 Noosa Council, in partnership with TransLink, are providing FREE public transport for everyone in the Noosa Shire.

Routes 626-629, 632, Temporary Route 064 (Peregian to Noosa),  Boreen Point FlexiLink and Noosa Council Cabs are the services covered under the program this year.

Sadly it seems the SCC has spent most of our PT Levy/Taxes on Light Rail studies of late, resulting in no funds for the Free Bus program this year.  I will wait a week for SCC for an announcement, otherwise I suspect the LR studies eating up the funds may be the case.

Not only does the free bus service in Noosa reduce traffic congestion at peak holiday times, year-on-year bus patronage grows when fares return because people have a taste of the convenience of bus travel.

I have tweeted a request to the Sunshine Coast Council asking if they are going to have free buses over the Christmas New Year period.
Awaiting a response.  :ttp:

All of the Sunbus fleet at the 2 SC depots (with the exception of the sole Toyota Coaster used for USC charters) are DDA complaint and accessible.  I would hope they mean bus stop maintenance as some of the stops (notably in the inland/hinterland areas) aren't in tip top condition.

Grab a free bus on New Year's Eve & take the worry out of getting behind the wheel. Park & ride from these locations: http://buff.ly/16xqyAp

Travel free on New Year's Eve
Friday 19 December 2014

Take the worry out of getting behind the wheel on New Year's Eve and grab a free bus to and from your celebration destination.

Sunshine Coast Council and Translink have combined to provide the free bus service across the region from noon on New Year's Eve (Wednesday, December 31) until 5.30am on New Year's morning (Thursday, January 1).

Additional services will also run from park and ride facilities from the University of the Sunshine Coast to Mooloolaba between 5pm and 8pm returning from 8.45pm until the end of festivities.

Mooloolaba party-goers will also be able to park and ride at Kawana Shopping Centre and Sunshine Plaza.  Additional return services will run frequently from 8.45pm to cater for the expected crowds.

Nambour residents will have access to two additional connection services from Sunshine Plaza (Route 610) at 10pm and 1am.

Transport Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the free public transport on New Year's Eve would provide a safe, convenient option for New Year's Eve revellers to get to and from their festivities.

"Council will host free New Year's Eve events at Mooloolaba, Caloundra and Coolum and the free bus services will be a safe and convenient way for people to get to and from their events," Cr Baberowski said.

"In Mooloolaba alone, New Year's Eve celebrations attract around 45,000 people so providing the free buses is all about safety and managing traffic and parking.

"The additional return services after each of the fireworks, at 8.30pm and midnight, will help get people home sooner.

"Bus services, in addition to those normally scheduled, will be advertised on council's website."
