THE clock is ticking on a proposed light rail extension with the State Government needing to make a decision before the end of March if it is to be delivered in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Despite having the support of Premier Campbell Newman, Transport Minister Scott Emerson, most local LNP MPs and Gold Coasters, the vital transport is yet to receive the official green light from the Government.

And Treasurer Tim Nicholls is the man holding it up.

More than 550,000 ­passengers are using the new service every month since it began ­operating between Parklands to Broadbeach in July, with 2.3 million trips by the end of November ...

I guess this isn't a surprise, considering the LNP vehemently opposed the GCLR when in Opposition, claiming it would be a white elephant.

  I guess Nicholls does not have enough property developer mates with interests along the future corridor. What is the alleged issue with funds anyway? GoldLinq offered to build it in exchange for a contract extension.
