Cairns Post --> Second tourist train touted between Cairns and Kuranda

QuotePLANS are under way to operate a second tourist train between Cairns and Kuranda next year.

Stuart Lansley of Kuranda Scenic Travel is aiming to start Kuranda Heritage Rail early next year to complement Queensland Rail's Kuranda Scenic Railway.

Kuranda Heritage Rail spokeswoman Kerryn Hayes said Mr Lansley had been working on the proposal for more than 12 months. She said during the peak season people could not get seats on the Queensland Rail service.

"It will be daily from Freshwater to Kuranda and back again,'' Ms Hayes said.

"It won't be competing with Queensland Rail. We will be working with them.''

Ms Hayes said it was intended to involve Skyrail as well. She said the heritage carriages would be pulled by a diesel locomotive, ruling out a steam engine.

Good news

I may risk getting off topic here, but would it be worth reopening Redlynch station because of the buses that stop there? Network integration can't hurt
