QuoteThe Department of Transport and Main Roads has developed a draft Disability Action Plan—Improving Access to 2017.

The purpose of the plan is to assist people with disability to participate in community life by improving the accessibility of the passenger transport network. The plan takes a customer-centred approach by focusing on 4 priorities and identifying 26 actions to be delivered. The 4 priorities are:

    building an accessible transport network
    enhancing the customer experience
    improving the accessibility of information
    working in collaboration with partners.

You are invited to have your say on the draft Disability Action Plan—Improving Access to 2017 by 5.00pm Friday, 9 May 2014.

30th June 2014

Good afternoon

As you are aware, TransLink Division has been in the process of developing the Disability Action Plan – Improving Access to 2017 (Disability Action Plan).

Your participation in the workshops held in November 2013 was greatly appreciated and the input we received through these sessions was very valuable in helping to refine the actions in the draft Disability Action Plan.  You would also be aware that as a result of your feedback, a public consultation process was undertaken to more broadly consult on the actions contained in the draft Disability Action Plan.

The public consultation process was undertaken during April and May 2014 and it is pleasing to note that the overall support for the actions was high, with greater than 75% of respondents 'strongly supporting' or 'supporting' each action.  As a result of the feedback received from this process, some further refinements were made to the Disability Action Plan.

I am extremely pleased to advise that the Disability Action Plan – Improving Access to 2017 has been approved by the Transport and Main Road's Director-General and is now available on the department's website at:

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Travel-and-transport/Disability-access-and-mobility/Disability-Action-Plan.aspx

Again, I would like to thank you and your members for your contribution during the development of this document.  I would also seek your assistance in promoting the release of the Disability Action Plan to your members.

For further information or enquiries regarding the Disability Action Plan please phone 13 12 30 or email ptaccessible@translink.com.au.

Regards

Belinda Lewis
