P238 Cannon Hill to Morningside

http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-notices/69846/details

Quote
From Monday 22 February, residents in Cannon Hill, Murarrie, Bulimba, Balmoral, Hawthorne and Morningside will have access to a new trial peak service – route 238 Cannon Hill to Morningside.

Route 238 will connect to new express CityCat services at the Hawthorne ferry terminal (in the morning) or you can catch a train at Morningside station. You can still catch an all stops CityCat in the afternoon.

The service will run about every 15 minutes, with five trips in the morning and six trips in the afternoon.

By catching route 238 and transferring to an express CityCat or train, you may save up to 25 minutes* travel time when compared to current bus travel options.

In addition, some residents in Hawthorne, Bulimba and neighbouring areas will have direct access to public transport for the first time.

The new route has been introduced as a 12-month trial in response to congestion along Wynnum Road and the Story Bridge, causing delays and service disruptions.

The service is jointly funded by Brisbane Transport and the Queensland Government and will be assessed in six months.

*Depending on the mode of transport you use, time of day you travel and your current bus route.

Yo.  Connecting existing network components in an integrated fashion. Can live with this.  Complete antithesis of the highly flawed P332.

And it is a normal funded service by the looks of things.

Ah Those express city cat service are full already.  Connecting to Oxford Street (an employment Centre) might have made more sense

Apparently it also connects to rail at Morningside, although bizarrely it appears to go there after Hawthorne. Must be rather circuitous.

5 minute connection window to the citycat at hawthorne should be interesting....but should encourage riverside workers to use the connection......also a nice option for people jumping off GCL's,590,220 etc @ cannon hill to get to riverside....

I reckon the hint is in the marketing blurb at the top. It says it will run from Cannon Hill, via Murrarie, Bulimba, Balmoral, Hawthorne and Morningside. It doesn't say they are in order, but I bet they are. Which means Creek, Lytton, Hawthorne, Wynnum Roads basically. Plus it will apparently be observing some new stops not currently served by any bus, so presumably it will deviate off these main roads in some places (while still following the general route). I'd expect these deviations to be either in Murrarie or between Hawthorne ferry and Morningside. But that's just a guess.

It's still a piecemeal bandaid, and should be called out as such. Members in Bulimba area should still be writing letters to their local councillor and saying that they don't want another bandaid peak hour special. What they want is a council that will show leadership on the issue of comprehensive network reform!

Thanks. It is ok.  I, like you, care so much for a better outcome.

Its not actually a badly designed route....reminds me of the C shaped routes that feed the Joondalup line.

Fattious

Having observed very minimal utilisation of the 238, Translink finally placed a sandwich board at Morningside Rail platform.

Asked some rail pax,  few were aware of it.

It's probably a good coverage route,  however being only peak many of the businesses operated before the services commence.
