Visa Debit is a combination of the two...You can use credit card facilities (Eg Online shopping, tap n go etc) the only difference is it is drawing from your own savings, rather than credit.

Think of it as a more capable version of a regular EFTPOS card.

As Sherwood is to the Ipswich line, as Murrumbeena is to the Dandenong/Pakenham line .. just simply highlighting the relative similarities ..

Staff are only there for the mornings, I have been there often during the afternoon evening no station staff.  Ticket office windows were walled off years ago ..

Hallam is past Dandenong ...  Dandenong is similar to Ipswich in some respects ...

But the Dandenong line is far busier than the Ipswich line. Dandenong station is used by nearly 10,000 people per day which makes it about as busy as Fortitude Valley. Yet despite the fact that it is so much busier at least a third of the stations on that corridor are unmanned while every station on the Ipswich line is manned.

Yes know all that ONR.  However all stations in Melbourne are to have two PSOs from 6pm to last train  ...  now that is a massive cost and I wonder how long it will be maintained, or even achieved ...

But the PSO policy is equally bad too....2 PSOs at Wattle Glen eventually?   :-r

ozbob

Yes, all rather mind blowing really ... but clearly there is a Government down there that thinks it is good policy .. lol

Was part of their election platform.   Not sure how permanent employment as a PSO will turn out ..  :P

2013 Estimates has actually confirmed a review of station staffing is actually underway, despite the denials above.

Expected to be finalised August.  Also confirmed no community consultation on this either ...

Queensland Rail staff working at stations when no trains are running will be sent to busier sites

QuoteQueensland Rail staff rostered on to work at stations when no trains are running are to be sent to busier sites to improve customer service from May 19.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson said seven suburban stations were currently staffed around the clock even though no trains operated between midnight and 4am.

These include Beenleigh, Caboolture, Ipswich, Manly, Nambour, Petrie and Robina.

"The seven stations will remain staffed from the first to last service, seven days a week," said Mr Emerson.

"Corinda, Ferny Grove, Indooroopilly and Yeerongpilly stations will now be staffed to assist passengers from the first service Monday to the last service Saturday.

"Sunday shifts will remain the same."

The seven stations losing midnight to dawn staff would still be patrolled overnight by security guards, Mr Emerson said.

"We won't be reducing the number of staff. Rather we are using our resources smarter allowing more stations to remain open for longer," he said.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Scott Emerson

Rail station hours boosted

Passengers will be the winners under a plan to extend staff hours at four Brisbane rail stations.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the Queensland Government would also end Labor's practice of having stations open when there were no trains or passengers.

"We made an election promise to revitalise frontline services and these changes will expand our customer service at four busy rail stations," Mr Emerson said.

"Corinda, Ferny Grove, Indooroopilly and Yeerongpilly stations will now be staffed to assist passengers from the first to last service Monday to Saturday.

"Sunday shifts will remain the same.

"The seven stations, which are currently staffed when there are no trains between midnight and 4am will remain staffed from first to last service, seven days a week."

Overnight security patrols will still operate at the seven stations.

Mr Emerson said the plan would continue the government's focus on frontline services, including having Queensland Rail staff more visible on platform and assisting passengers with boarding to maintain on-time running.

"We won't be reducing the number of staff, rather we are using our resources smarter, allowing more stations to remain open for longer," he said.

"Recent surveys have shown that overall satisfaction on the City network had increased to the highest level ever achieved by Queensland Rail."

Police, transit officers, security guards and mobile dog patrols operate across the Queensland Rail network in addition to more than 8,000 CCTV cameras and help phones.

The changes will start from Monday 19 May.
