If my memory serves me correct the first type of these Region Guide booklets and also University came out in 2004 with the first publishing of a map booklet which was never to be published again.  It had one big mistake showed the frequency of all bus and ferry routes but left out the train frequency.

Anyway, the reason I am posting this and yes I know some people bag Translink but here in South Australia we need something like this even though Adelaide Metro is around.  Translink did many region guides in which they showed proposed maps and frequencies for routes in booklet and then produced a guide after they were implemented on was implemented on my birthday 27 June (can't remember the year) but it was the Southern Region.

Yes, Translink does a great job in consultation with the public I don't know how popular there BBQ's used to be for this as well as stands at shopping centres and whether anyone's ideas were taken up or rejected.  However, one thing is for certain those region booklets I think are the way to go for every capital city in Australia.  The new ones are much easier to read and understand and so are the timetables because they are done by Transit Graphics as opposed to Transmarketing.

A couple of years ago I gave a talk to the AETA (SA Division) about Gold Coast Public Transport and put up on powerpoint a Gold Coast Surfside Timetable and then the route map and it took around 15 minutes for someone to find the timepoint on what was meant to be a Transmarketing published timetable can you imagine what tourists might think.  The new look timetables from Ispwich are a big improvement on the former and well done to Translink for awarding this contract to someone who knows how to understand what the public really need in regards to understanding timetables.  However, the Gold Coast map has been reviewed in Transit Australia by me and the one on their website doesn't highlight roads just the routes in different colour etc.  However, I got criticised for providing constructive criticism in a map and timetable review and I am happy to report that was done by Netz Plan for the Gold Coast Network Map seems to be soon replaced with Transit Graphics style.

Some people may have remembered I wrote a review in Transit Australia Magazine about the Gold Coast Network Map well I am happy to say they have changed there map designers from Netz Plan to Transit Graphics who have done just that showing the roads clearly and yes something else they are now available as a network map for Gold Coast, Central Gold Coast, North and South Gold Coast- well done Transit Graphics which shows that even though NetzPlan criticised my review in Transit Australia (a whole one page letter to the editor) I have been vindicated.

In other words NetzPlan can claim all they want they do a much better job but it does show something doesn't it.
