Our app development team at the Smart Transport Research Centre at QUT have been working on an app to help cyclists safely find their way around Brisbane. It uses data on the bikeway paths as well as roads with bike lanes to compute a journey for the user.

It is currently only available as an app on Windows Phone: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/brisbane-bikeway/5e85db45-8149-4b81-a2f3-ac5786361020. The free version can compute either the shortest route, or the safest route, where it prioritises exclusive bikeways and roads with bike lanes over general roads. The premium version will also calculate the easiest route.

We also have a web-based version, http://www.bikeway.strc.com.au/, that you can use on other devices, however this version will only compute the safest trip. We do have plans for developing Android and IPhone versions, however our team is very small and busy with other projects, so a release date for those versions is unknown at this time. I will update this thread though, when they do become available.

We would love any feedback and comments on issues with the app and any ideas on how to improve it.

I can't give a firm date for the other versions at the moment, unfortunately. I will keep this thread updated though, once they are available.
