Inadvertent touching - another issue with the Go card

There are some buses in particular that are freefor passengers.  For example the City Loop services, and the buses between QUT Gardens Point and QUT Kelvin Grove and Carseldine.  I have been very careful that I don't unintentionally touch on when on the City Loop bus which I get now and again.

Some folks have reported inadvertent touching on the bus between QUT Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove when passing the readers on the buses.

They do get their money back but they are frustrated that it happens and it takes up to 10 days for the loot.

I am not sure if the Go card system can be turned off on these services, so I think it is just a matter of being very aware and make sure you keep space (>10cm) between your card and the devices!

As long as it's inadvertent touching and not inappropriate touching!   ;D

According to Translink website all you need to do is touch on again on the same reader with-in a set time (forget how long this is) and the charge is deleted.

Yes, thanks for the reminder Palmboy

Quoteusing your card to cancel a journey

To cancel a journey after you have touched on, wait 10 seconds and touch your card again at the same bus or ferry stop (on board the service) or rail station within 20 minutes. The card reader will display a message showing that no fare was deducted and the available balance remaining on your go card.

If you are at a gated rail station, you must exit the station through a fare gate to cancel your journey.

The problem for some is that they are not necessarily aware they have touched on.
If they are they can touch to cancel.

Someone posted on the facebook group "Fix the Translink GO Card!" to call 1800 772 675 and demand a refund. They should cough up the funds straight away instead of waiting the 10 days for it.
Sometimes I think the Go Card can go and get F**KED!

I think the same thing 10 days to get $3 back! They are mad, the person right there right then should just deal with it! My $3 refund must cost them $50 at least by escalating them all!

I hopped on a City looper the other day.  I noticed the devices where showing out of service, although the bus was correctly positioned at the bus stop in George St (near Parliament).

Good I thought, they have turned them off.  Wrong!  Must have been a system problem as when it got up George St to the next stops it started to activate normally ...

GOody

An old thread, but still relevant.

I hopped on a bus recently that was standing room only. I'd swiped on with my go Card, and had put it into the back pocket of my jeans.

I loitered around the exit area, leaning against the poles. Realised that my jeans pocket was in line with the tag off machine, so removed the card and put it somewhere where it wouldn't accidentally trigger. Something to think about.

Yes, thanks for the reminder GOody.  I have been getting a bit complacent on the buses but is possible to activate the touch devices and not know, particularly under the circumstances you describe!

I think it is one of the causes of the 'phantom penalties' reported by users ...
