Route 234 Kangaroo Pt - Woolloongabba

Route 234 City to Woolloongabba via Kangaroo Pt

Not a genuine new route as it is sectioned off from the 475 service. Hourly day service.
I think some route 29 services can be merged with this route - this would connect parts of East Brisbane to Kangaroo Pt and the Valley. There are already ferries to Kangaroo Pt (hopefully these will be free in time) but I would consider extending the bus through the Valley to terminate at RBWH turnaround, giving a cross-town service.

It would also solve the PA hospital connection loss as well.

I'm not sure if it needs to meld with route 29, given that there are several options once you get to Woollongabba busway station, such as routes 29 or even route 100, which both run frequently.  If anything, route 234 just needs to run more frequently, if the patronage is there.

I think it is a bit short and there would be no extra cost for selected trips of route 29 to be tacked on to the end of 234. It is a better anchor. Plus you eliminate a transfer as well, which is important given the hour between buses during the day.

I don't think it needs to go to the CBD if there are already ferries going across from Riverside to Holman, Thornton and Dockside streets.

Yeah not sure about this hourly business. The Main St corridor is a big black spot.

Route 29 is a peaky route primarily designed to cater for passengers coming from Wooloongabba buses (interchange) or passengers being left behind by full 109/139/169/209 buses at Park Road (once again, interchange). Especially given how the 109 is being merged with the 66 and going to RBWH, I think it would be very daft to extend the 29 from Wooloongabba to RBWH. It connects very little - Main Street gets a direct service to UQ (is that even warranted?), Valley gets a direct service, despite buses going to the Valley every 5 minutes or less, and RBWH is already being served by the new 66.

There isn't a great benefit from doing this, especially given how it would complicate the network and decrease the 29's OTP.

Route 234 simply should run more frequently. The modifying of the 475 into two routes is a very good idea. What I find absolutely daft though, is reducing the frequency of the 475 to hourly. Strangely enough, the 475 shares a catchment area with the Maroon WasteGlider. I think that explains very nicely to everybody on this forum why the 475 is having frequency reductions over duplicative waste like the 460 and air parcels like the 417.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Disagree. Simple task to simply extend when necessary. The Valley is an anchor.
Kangaroo Pt is a bit of a PT blackspot at the moment. It doesn't really connect anything despite the high density in that area.

Call me cynical, but what is in the valley? A bunch of buses and trains that eventually go into the CBD, a few high-rise, Chinatown and some strip clubs. Sure, the route might be popular with people who just failed their exam and want to drink their sorrows away, but I do not see the Valley as an 'anchor', simply due to the fact it is so easy to get there by connecting to other services.

Extensions using the 29 would be complex, and it would complicate the current very simple timetable of the 29 being a loop between Wooloongabba and UQ Lakes which as a round trip, takes around 20 minutes to complete.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?
