Work begins on new bus station

QuoteWork begins on new bus station

WORK has begun on the $2 million Redbank Plaza bus station which replaces the old stops on the western side of the shopping centre.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk was at the construction site yesterday and said the new bus stops will improve bus services for commuters in Ipswich.

"This new Redbank Plaza bus station under construction will improve capacity to allow growing numbers of passengers on existing bus services, including bus routes 500, 525 and 526 and accommodate new bus services as they come online," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"It will make catching the bus at Redbank Plaza a lot more comfortable for passengers who travel on Westside buses, particularly around Redbank, Goodna and Gailes."

The new station includes a sheltered bus platform, upgraded pathways and landscaping, conversion of the existing bus stops into a larger taxi rank and a bus turnaround within the shopping centre car park, and two bus bays.

Bundamba MP Jo Ann Miller said the new bus turnaround would reduce the distance buses currently have to travel to access the bus station and improve bus travel times.

"TransLink recently restructured bus services around Ipswich to improve timetable reliability, transport connections and built more than 100 new bus stops throughout the city," Ms Miller said.

She said the upgrade would give Ipswich residents a better bus service with more reliable timetables.

$2 million Redbank bus station takes shape

Wednesday 31 August 2011

Work is under way on the $2 million Redbank Plaza bus station which will improve bus services for commuters in the greater Ipswich region.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the new station would soon replace the old bus stops on the western side of the shopping centre, off Collingwood Drive.

"This new Redbank Plaza bus station under construction will improve capacity to allow growing numbers of passengers on existing bus services, including bus routes 500, 525 and 526 and accommodate new bus services as they come online," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"It will make catching the bus at Redbank Plaza a lot more comfortable for the bus passengers that travel on Westside buses, particularly around Redbank, Goodna and Gailes."

The new station includes:

    A new sheltered bus platform with upgraded passenger facilities;
    Upgraded pathways and landscaping;
    The existing bus stops converted into a larger taxi rank; and
    A bus turnaround within the shopping centre car park and two bus bays.

State Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller said the new bus turnaround in the shopping centre car park would reduce the distance buses currently have to travel to access the bus station and improve bus travel times after recent local road changes due to the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade Project.

"TransLink recently restructured bus services around Ipswich to improve timetable reliability, transport connections and built more than 100 new bus stops throughout the city," Ms Miller said.

"Together, this new bus station and recent routes restructure offer Ipswich residents better, more direct bus services with more reliable timetables."

Ms Palaszczuk said the station upgrade project was part of the TransLink Station Upgrade Program (TSUP) to improve bus stations across the network.

"The temporary bus turnaround facility that was created at Redbank Plaza to fast-track the delivery of improvements to services at the existing bus stop will remain open until the new bus station is complete," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"For safety purposes, a number of car parks around the works will have to be closed during construction, but every effort will be made to keep disruptions to a minimum.
