SEQ: Fix the SEQ TransLink fares - first steps

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has said the Palaszczuk Government needs to move immediately to sort out the failed fare system for SEQ. Affordability is rock-bottom and community is suffering from a loss of mobility.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The ALP in their 2014 policy platform indicated that they would introduce concessions on public transport for the unemployed and sort out the unaffordability of SEQ fares (1)."

"It is time to act.  Concession fare eligibility for all Health Care Card holders could be introduced overnight.  Similarly off peak fare discount could be increased to 30%. Consideration should also be given to a further immediate fare cut in SEQ. These interim measures would then help reverse the patronage slide and buy time for a more detailed fare review as promised by Mr Tim Mulherin during the recent election campaign (2)."

"The Palaszczuk Government is concerned about jobs. Assisting the unemployed to be able to afford to use public transport would greatly assist the unemployed in seeking employment and maintaining social mobility and quality of life."
