Just received an alert.  No sure why I got it though, I registered for a Goodna rail to Central weekday travel experience.

Maybe they thought I was comtemplating a burn on the Segway?   :bg:

This the alert:

An alert service really needs to be a 'push' service.  Twitter, SMS that better capture the users attention will improve this service.

Gday

I'm Brad, and I work with the Smart Transport Research Centre (http://www.strc.org.au) at QUT. I've been following this forum for a while now, as I'm very interested in public transport and the improvement of it, particularly in Brisbane and SEQ.

I'm not directly involved with the development of the Commuter Information Service (CIS), but I have passed on your feedback, particularly with respect to the bug you mentioned, to Marc, who is the main guy in charge of it. We appreciate any other bug reports, feature requests and other feedback that you and any of the other readers of this forum may have, so we can improve the service. You can email them to bugs@commuter.info, features@commuter.info, and feedback@commuter.info. I will also keep an eye on this thread if you rather post them here.

One of our developers is currently working on a mobile app that will work with the CIS, so if you have any suggestions on what you would like to see included in it, we would love to hear it.

If you have any other questions, I might be able to answer them here.

Welcome Brad!  Thanks for dropping by.  I am sure folks would be keen to give feedback.

The QR erail system has been ceased (unlikely to be started again) so there is good opportunity.  A good feature of erail was the SMS alerts (although there were some technical issues/delays from time to time).

Not sure what is around for road traffic alerts but this could be very useful as well.

From one of the CRG's when QR terminated erail, one of the main shortcomings of the erail system from their point of view was that the way they set it up it didn't have a 'free text' option, so they had to always select one of a dozen (can't recall how many it actually was, but it wasn't that many) pre-written faults ("Track fault" "Train fault" etc) and always had to specify a time that it would be fixed by, even when they had no idea because the fault had just occurred. This setup lead to things like a truck on fire on the Gateway Mwy that temporarily stopped trains on the Cleveland line running due to smoke being sent out as a track fault...

Other than that though, erail was a fairly decent system.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
