QuoteWell I think we all can feel the privatisation of QR coming.

Many people within QR have the same feeling ;)

For nearly a decade too. As soon as it was formally organised and split up into sections (Freight/Passenger/Network ops etc) it was thought certain areas would be privitised within a few years and what do you know a couple years later the coal and freight sections were being sold off.

That's it! There are feelings around that certain managers have been brought in/back to get the passenger side of things ready for privatisation/franchising as well, so could be an interesting few years coming up again..
All opinions stated are my own and do not reflect those held by my employer.

Simon, it wouldn't matter if Airtrain was built by the state and operated free on 15min intervals, I recon the road upgrades around that area would still have been done anyway.
And I reckon these things would have made a huge difference.  But it also needs feed.  No point running even every 5 minutes if you then are connecting to a train which runs every 30 or even 60 minutes.

The train frequency at Brisbane Airport is still not great, neither is the span - the cheap flights are just out of reach of the train times!
I catch the bus now, hehehe. Get the free shuttle to DFO and then connect. Works a treat. Takes a little longer, but I can afford to do that.

I'm interested to know how much patronage has resulted in the 7-8pm period due to the extension of airtrain times? you could use it with a lot more confidence then due to knowing late running flights won't result in you being stranded.

Yes would be nice to know, but assume its enough to keep the train running otherwise Airtrain would have canned it.
Not only have they not canned it, they've talked about increasing it further, although we haven't heard anything more about that.

Twin whammy here tonight, a couple of friends flying from Melbourne to Brisbane and supposed to be here around 9pm, just been advised by them that their flight is late and they probably now won't meet the airtrain 10pm curfew.... so looks like it's a late night drive to the airport for me :-(

I agree Mozz, have to disagree with Gazza here on this one. I do factor in train availability because if I can't get the train, then it's $50 whacked onto the trip which annihilates any cost saving from the cheap flight.

Well a good outcome for me on this one, they made it with 15 mins to go to catch the 9.59pm train - thus will be here in around 10 mins.

While I reckon Oxley town is a great place to live there is an issue with living 11km or so from the CBD, in that it's in the south-west and the airport is in the north east - thus taxi fares to the airport are $80 - $90 or more if in peak.

New Brisbane Airport master plan to focus on more public transport.  Few details though.

"Mr Willey said the corporation would also be looking to work with the private operators of the AirTrain to expand existing operations."
